My hike from Nanaimo to Mt. De Cosmos, May 12-13, 2007

Or how I explored my new environs (perhaps not in the best way)

This was probably the worst prepared and most improvised hike of my life, but it was a great learning experience. Click on the individual links/icons below to see and read more.

Chronological slide show of the whole hike

What I saw from the highest point of my hike:

Southern slopes of the Blackjack Ridge

First Lake

Highlights/lessons:

Elk killed by a tree

Beautiful flora

For sustainable logging

[Later I have learned that Mt. de Cosmos got its name from the second Premier of British Columbia, who was born as William Alexander Smith but changed his name to Amor de Cosmos (Love of the Universe).]
